Signia was the last of the big manufacturers to put a full artificial intelligence system inside a hearing aid. Having just come back from the UK launch, we can tell you the wait looks deliberate. Rather than bolting one AI feature onto an existing platform, Signia has rebuilt the whole hearing aid around four deep neural networks that run at the same time - and called the result Signia MaX.

What Is Signia MaX?
MaX stands for Multi-adaptive Xperience. It is the successor platform to Signia Integrated Xperience (IX) and was announced in August 2026, with the UK launch following in September. The first and currently only device on the platform is the Pure Charge&Go MaX, a rechargeable receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid available in Black, Chestnut Brown, Honey Blonde, Rose Gold, Beige, Titanium Grey, Silver Grey and Dark Champagne.
The thinking behind MaX is worth understanding before any spec sheet. Most AI hearing aids apply their intelligence to one job: reducing background noise. Signia's argument is that this is one-dimensional. Background noise is not always the enemy. Sometimes it is the music in a restaurant you want to soak up, or the traffic you need to hear before crossing a road. The question a hearing aid should ask is not "how much noise do I remove?" but "what does this wearer need right now?"
MaX is Signia's attempt to answer that second question, every 0.01 seconds.
Acoustic Intelligence: Four Deep Neural Networks
A deep neural network (DNN) is an AI system trained to recognise patterns - in this case, patterns in sound. Most hearing aid manufacturers run one. Signia MaX runs four at the same time, each with its own job:
- Speech - detects and analyses external speakers, including several conversation partners at once.
- Own voice - identifies the wearer's voice so it can be processed separately and sound natural.
- Acoustic scene - reads the wider environment: indoors, outdoors, music, echo, a restaurant, traffic.
- Noise - works out not just whether noise is present, but what kind of noise it is and whether it matters to you.
Signia describes the combined system as a live sound engineer sitting inside the hearing aids, constantly adjusting the faders. According to Signia, Acoustic Intelligence was trained on more than 40 million sound samples across 11 languages and six music genres, decodes changes in the conversational environment in 0.01 seconds, and optimises up to 800 million parameters per second.
Those are enormous numbers, and they are Signia's numbers. No independent laboratory has tested MaX yet. We will say more on that in our verdict below.
The Four AI Features Explained
RealTime Conversation Enhancement AI
Group conversations are the hardest situation for any hearing aid. Voices come from the left, the right and across the table, mixed with cutlery, music and laughter. Signia IX introduced real-time tracking of multiple speakers, and MaX evolves it into RealTime Conversation Enhancement AI, which isolates and enhances several conversation partners simultaneously - even as people move, join or leave the conversation - without relying purely on where you are looking.
In Signia's own launch study, 97% of participants performed better in noisy group conversations with MaX than with key competitor devices, and 100% performed better than with Signia's previous generation. Manufacturer data, yes - but it is refreshing to see a manufacturer publish a direct comparison against both rivals and its own older technology.
Own Voice Processing AI
One of the most common complaints from new hearing aid wearers is the sound of their own voice - boomy, echoey, "like talking down a well". It is a major reason people give up on hearing aids early. Signia's Own Voice Processing has addressed this for years, but it needed calibration in a clinic, with the wearer reading aloud while the system learned their voice.
On MaX it is automatic. Trained on 1.5 million real voice samples, Own Voice Processing AI recognises your voice straight out of the box, with no calibration session required. Signia reports that hearing aids fitted with Own Voice Processing show lower return rates, particularly among first-time wearers.

Ambient Scene Adaptation AI
Rather than switching between fixed programs when the environment changes, Ambient Scene Adaptation AI adjusts continuously - reverberation, movement, music, spectral structure - so sound is tailored to this place and this moment rather than a generic preset. The result should be surroundings that simply feel natural, with conversation still prioritised.
Dynamic Noise Control AI
Dynamic Noise Control AI understands what kind of noise is present and whether you are actively in conversation, then adjusts noise reduction precisely. The aim is comfort and immersion without dulling the voices you actually want to hear - reducing distraction while preserving speech clarity and awareness of your environment.
The New Chip: Power, Size and Battery Life
Running four neural networks continuously takes serious processing, and this is where AI hearing aids from other manufacturers have struggled - with size, battery drain, or AI that only runs in short bursts or as a separate program. Signia's new MaX chip claims 54 times more processing power than the previous platform, twice the memory and 50% greater energy efficiency, allowing all four DNNs to run all day rather than on demand.
Despite that, the Pure Charge&Go MaX is no bigger than the previous generation and delivers around 30 hours per charge. The portable charger doubles as a power bank storing up to four full charges, a full charge takes about four hours, and a quick 30-minute top-up gives roughly six hours of use. For anyone streaming heavily or travelling, those are reassuring figures - if they hold up in daily use.
Connectivity: Everything in One Device
Hearing aid connectivity has always involved compromise. Some models favour iPhone, some Android; some have Bluetooth Classic, some LE Audio; telecoils come and go. We have genuinely seen people choose a hearing aid based on their phone rather than their hearing loss, which is the wrong way round.
The Pure Charge&Go MaX ends that debate. One honest caveat: Auracast is not switched on at launch. If Auracast public audio is your main reason for upgrading, note the date.
Two Features Made for Buying Hearing Aids Online
